Recently, England’s Jonny May and Wales’ Alex Cuthbert were team-mates on opposite wings at current holders Hartpury College before turning professional. Twelve months ago it was another winger whose performance proved decisive as Hartpury’s most recent crop of future stars edged Leeds Beckett University 28-24 in an enthralling contest, thanks to a hat trick from winger Ian Clark.
Leeds Beckett are back this year, hoping for a change in fortune and captain Will Cargill thinks the team have grown over the last twelve months, “It’s a great day for the club. The game showed that we have matured as a team and that we can find different ways to win. We are looking forward to returning to Twickenham but this time we are hoping to get the win”
For their opponents Loughborough it will be thefirst visit to Twickenham in five years, when they defeated Cardiff Met to lift the trophy. They will be full of confidence heading into the final having already recorded victories over Leeds Beckett so far this season. The two sides have occupied the top two spots in the Northern Premier League in the last two seasons, doing what many thought impossible by releasing Durham’s hold on the league and Championship
